Cauldhall Surface Mine

Scottish Coal has now submitted a planning application to Midlothian Council which seeks permission to recover the coal reserves which lie to the south of our existing Shewington Surface Mine which is located south of Rosewell on the A6094.
The new site will be known as the Cauldhall Surface Mine. The planning application is supported by an Environmental Statement (ES) which sets out the findings of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) which has been undertaken.
A Non Technical Summary of the ES has been produced (below) which provides a brief and summarised account of a large amount of technical information. The Non Technical Summary is intended to provide a sufficient overview of the proposed development and the environmental issues which have been assessed to allow the reader to gain an understanding of the key issues associated with the development.
