Restoration
During and following operations, it is crucial to progressively restore the mined land to a condition which is suitable for the use to which it is going to be put.
As a minimum, this may be to the condition that it was in prior to development, but with any legacy of former underground mining removed. This means all aspects of the land including such matters as its ecosystem, fertility and new community uses.
Where there is an opportunity to develop the post-operational site into something other than the use for which it was used before operations, we always do so in a consultative manner and aim to provide land use solutions in the best interests of local communities - for example, housing, new employment uses, sports or leisure facilities, forest or landmark spaces that provide a point of pride or boost inward tourism.
