Scottish Coal

planning

Planning remains a key part of Scottish Coal's activities. In developing an effective and considerately operated site, it is vital to establish a schedule of operations and post-operational vision that is in line with the wishes and requirements of local communities.

From initial surveying, through site planning, transportation planning and disruption minimisation planning, forward thinking is at the heart of responsible mining behaviour.

Over the years, Scottish Coal, in conjunction with the other divisions of the SRG Group has developed an excellent reputation for working with local government and communities to develop plans that work well for all involved parties.

Any development which consists of changing the 'use' of the land or to carrying out operations in, on or under land requires the grant of planning permission in order that such development can be carried out.

Planning is a function which is fully devolved to the Scottish Government which is responsible for both primary legislation and for planning policy and guidance. Local Government sets land use policy through its Development Plans which aim to guide developers to areas where specific forms of development may be broadly acceptable or unacceptable.

Planning application for mining and renewable energy developments can only be submitted in fully detailed form as they are considered to be technically complex and both statutory consultees and the community need access to the detailed proposals and Environmental Impact Assessment.
