Identification of the coal seams that may have potential for exploration is a complex and technical process.
The company's own geologists use a combination of published geological data and former mining records, together with their own experience to identify potential new working areas.
A programme of drilling will be undertaken with strata cores taken for mapping and quality analysis purposes. Further boreholes will be drilled for water quality and backfill assessment purposes. Modern technology is used to enhance the knowledge of what lies below the ground.
The geologists will assess economic viability and provide their results to the mine development team to draw up detailed proposals.
