Our business model
Scottish Resources Group has three divisions that work
together to get the most out of our land and mineral assets before, during and after mining has taken place. By working cooperatively, the three divisions are able to create operational efficiencies that add value, lower costs, minimise disruption, build relationships, create useful solutions and lower environmental impact.
How the divisions fit together
The Group's business model has been designed to maximise the value of our land assets through our mining and other activities. Each operation goes through a number of distinct phases within which the divisions contribute to the realisation of optimum value.
In the pre-operational stage, the SRG Estates team secure strategic land deals. Once the land is purchased, they start work to maximise income out of it whilst, at the same time, planning its post-operational use.
During the operational stage, Scottish Coal mines the land safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption whilst SRG Renewables progresses the strategy of both diversification within the Group and optimising opportunities for renewable energy production on its extensive rural Estate. The SRG Estates team focuses on planning consent for the after-use programme.
At post operational stage our Scottish Coal divisions follow 'green-to-green' principles in order to restore the land and ecosystem to at least the standard at which it was before mining. The SRG Estate team realises the value of the land either through sale or investment, meeting all planning requirements, as well as the needs of local communities.
Summary description of each division
- Scottish Coal develops our surface mining interests - providing coal to the UK's major power generators. All our sites are run with care and consideration, whilst delivering optimum value, efficiencies and environmental standards to all stakeholders.
- SRG Estates is responsible for our land and property interests. The company is a significant owner of strategic land across central Scotland. By effectively managing this land, SRG Estates supports the Group's aim of delivering maximum value from the land before, during and after mining, as well as providing the long-term land solutions that local communities look for.
- SRG Renewables Seeks opportunity for and develops our renewable energy interests including wind and biomass, waste-to-energy initiatives and control of operational emissions.
Planning
Working together, the three divisions support the Group vision: firstly to realise the economic potential of land assets, whilst providing the traditional and renewable energy sources required to meet the nations needs. Secondly to develop relevant and appropriate land use solutions - always maintaining a commitment to leave a positive legacy on the communities we touch.
Our understanding and experience of the planning systems involved at each stage of any site's life-span is a key aspect of this. Working in cooperation with local communities through each phase of the planning process has allowed us to develop a reputation as a fair and responsible miner and create enduring and meaningful relationships across all levels of government.
